Åsa Sonjasdotter
Åsa Sonjasdotter is an artist living on the island of Ven in Sweden. In her practice, she enquires relationalities of crops; their nurturing generosity, the tensions around power, politics, and narratives they stir, and also, not the least, the ways social organisation mobilise and form coalitions around their cultivation.
Sonjasdotter`s film ‘Cultivating Abundance’ screened at BOTANIK, traces the history of monocultural farming techniques, and their representation, in Sweden. Outlining the dangers of monocultural techniques, both ecologically and culturally, the film uncovers the vital work being done by counter-movements to the monopoly of large-scale agribusiness.
